Janet Frobisher (Davis), a bestselling mystery writer, is so startled by the appearance of her estranged criminal husband that she poisons him. Another man agrees to help her, but matters are soon complicated. Davis is fabulous as the novelist, for whom killing is almost as easy to carry out in real life as it is to conjure up in her fiction.
