Black Moon

Black Moon

Louis Malle meets Lewis Carroll in this bizarre and bewitching trip down the rabbit hole - Black Moon.

Lily (Catherine Harrison) is a teenager who escapes to a country estate only to find it a microcosm of the battle between the sexes that is raging across France and through the 1970s. She encounters bizarre behaviour, including Brother Lily (Warhol favourite Joe Dellesandro), who is only able to communicate through touch. And there is even talk of the existence of a unicorn. Malle’s film captures the anarchic spirit of the decade in which it was made. Ravishingly shot by Bergman and Woody Allen cinematographer Sven Nykvist, it unfolds in and around Malle’s own country estate and plays out like an adult Alice in Wonderland.
