Marino Pacileo (Toni Servillo), an accountant at the Poggioreale prison in Naples is known to most of his friends and acquaintances as “Gorbaciof”, thanks to the large red birthmark on his forehead that resembles the one belonging to former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Shy and soft-spoken, Pacileo has only one passion: gambling. When he finds out that the father of Lila (Mi Yang), the young Chinese woman he has fallen in love with, cannot cover a debt incurred at the gaming tables, Pacileo is willing to help. However, Lila’s father needs more money than Gorbaciof has on hand, so he begins skimming funds from the cashbox at work, leading him down a treacherous path.
