Trishna

Trishna

Michael Winterbottom’s third adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s work, ‘Trishna’ is a beautifully shot, classic tale of love and tragedy set in modern-day rural Rajasthan and the thriving metropolis of Mumbai. Relocating ‘Tess of the d’Urbervilles’ to India, with Freida Pinto as the film’s eponymous and ill-fated heroine, ‘Trishna’ is a bold and visually striking work that makes the most of its stunning backdrop. No less impressive, as Trishna’s tortuous lover, is Riz Ahmed, proving once again to be an exciting presence in contemporary British film.
