Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman) is magnificent in the second feature from Kleber Mendoça Filho. A 65-year-old widow and retired music critic, has lived in the same apartment since the 1960s. A life of memories, events liaisons and incidents is embedded in the brickwork, bookcases and furniture. But now that the other apartments have been swept up by a company with ambitious plans for redevelopment, pressures to move on surround Clara from all sides. But unfortunately for the developers, they have underestimated Clara’s wilfulness and tenacity. A tremendous kaleidoscope of life’s pleasures and our reasons for defending them.
