Dogtooth
Winner of the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes and nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Dogtooth is an absurd, hilarious and inventively provocative film. A family live on the edge of a city in a house enclosed by high walls. The only person allowed to leave is the father, keeping his wife and three children “safe” from the evils of the outside world. Considering his son to have reached an age where his sexual needs should be met, the father brings home Christine, who soon threatens their insular world.
Lanthimos’ film is a startlingly sharp piece of imaginative insanity, and the events instigated by the unhinged parents swing between the weirdly comical to the repulsive.
