Rebellion

Rebellion

Matthieu Kassovitz’s finest film since his blistering debut La Haine, Rebellion tells the story of a group of indigenous Kanaks who, in 1988, stormed a police station on one of the Pacific islands that make up New Caledonia, killing four gendarmes and taking 20 hostage. What followed highlighted the nefarious activity of politicians who, in the run-up to the national elections, wanted to profit from whatever points could be scored from this volatile situation.
