Saint Frances is the result of a first-time director (Alex Thompson) directing a first-time writer (Kelly O’Sullivan). Based on the writer’s own experience, she also plays Bridget, a 34-year-old, directionless young woman prone to drinking far too much and the occasional ill-advised hook-up with men she could care less about, the latest of which leads to pregnancy, and an abortion. Needing a job for the summer, she somehow winds up as nanny to Frances, the impossibly precocious child of same-sex parents Annie and Maya.
