It’s 1960. Relations between the US and Soviet Union are rapidly deteriorating as a result of Moscow’s support for the Cuban Revolution and Fidel Castro. Things will soon heat up with the fiasco of the Bay of Pigs invasion and subsequent missile crisis. Meanwhile in Europe, the face-off between East and West is also escalating. Enter Wynne, a mild-mannered British salesman whose personality is so bland he barely makes an impression on those he meets; hence his suitability as a conduit between MI6 and Russian officer Oleg Penkovsky. Charged with stealing technology secrets from the West, Penkovsky is actually supplying details of the Soviet nuclear programme to them. And Wynne soon becomes his most vital contact.
