White Colour Black

White Colour Black

Joseph A. Adesunloye’s striking debut finds a successful London photographer questioning his identity when news arrives from Senegal that his estranged father has died.

Leke (Dudley O’Shaughnessy) is a mixed heritage man living a fairly hedonistic life in London. His existence is permanently in the moment, capturing what he wants to make of it through his lens. But after hearing of his father’s death he travels back to his father’s village and is forced to face up to the reality that not everyone sees him as he does. Adesunloye’s film grapples with a question that faces so many people in an age where families have become fractured as a result of people moving around the world. There are no easy answers, but ‘White Colour Black’ skilfully navigates Leke’s journey – understanding his desire to create his own life but also facing the challenges that one’s life is also forged by their past.
