Aki Kaurismäki’s surreal comedy ‘Calamari Union’ has been made available in HD for the first time in the UK by Curzon. A group of men all called Frank - save for the lone Pekka - decide that life in the working class district of Kallio is just too tough and they set off on a journey to across town to find a better life in the near-mythical neighbourhood of Eira. Detailing the various misadventures that the Franks encounter during their unexpectedly arduous quest, Kaurismäki’s stylish second feature is a rock and roll B-movie with attitude.
