Summer in rural Turkey: Lale and her four sisters are on their way home from school, innocently playing with local boys. But village gossip reaches the girls’ strict uncle and soon the sisters find themselves locked in their bedrooms, “instruments of corruption,” like cell phones and computers are confiscated, and homework is replaced by endless lessons in housework in preparation for arranged marriages. As the eldest sisters are married off, the younger ones bond together to avoid the same fate.
