Next Of Kin
Peter Foster is a young man with a difficult family. Depressed and frustrated with his lot, he decides to start a course of video-therapy with his domineering parents. At the clinic he comes across some videotapes belonging to a troubled Armenian family who, twenty years earlier, gave up their infant son to a foster home. Seizing the opportunity, Peter decides to present himself as their long lost son and play out a new role in his life… A sly, smart and slippery comedy filled with haunting, symbolic imagery, Atom Egoyan’s debut feature is a mesmerising meditation on disaffection, longing and the roles played out in modern society that secured his place at the forefront of independent cinema.
