Only You
Winner of the Best Actor and Best Director awards at The BIFAs, Harry Wootliff’s debut is a perceptive relationship drama.
Elena (Laia Costa), 35, and Jake (Josh O’Connor), 26, meet by chance on New Year’s Eve, fighting over the same taxi. But, instead of going their separate ways after a shared ride, they embark on a passionate relationship. Within weeks they are living together and soon after they talk about starting a family. But, as the seasons pass, reality catches up. Falling in love was the easy part, but can they remain in love when life doesn’t give them everything they hoped for?
Wootliff’s script sensitively handles a difficult subject, but it’s down to Costa and O’Connor to draw us into Elena and Jake’s world. And they do. It’s a smart and very modern take on the highs and lows of relationships.
