Based on former teacher François Begeaudeau’s bestselling novel ‘Between the Walls’, this Palme d’Or-winning portrait of school life explores the tensions and issues faced by both teachers and pupils in the classroom. Begeaudeau also stars as François Martin, a young teacher who brings new ideas into an inner-city school only to find that they don’t all work out. Director Laurent Cantet cast a group of non-professional actors to play the students. The result feels authentic, giving each scene an air of urgency and the sense that anything could happen.
