Set in a small Icelandic farming community, The County focuses on Inga, a middle-aged dairy farmer who rebels against an all-powerful local Cooperative following the sudden death of her husband. Inga attempts to rally neighbouring farmers to join her in opposing the co-op’s inflated prices and cartel mindset, only to encounters escalating resistance, which forces her to extreme lengths in order to combat the community’s dependence on and loyalty to a broken system. Loosely inspired by actual events in Iceland, Grímur Hákonarson drama captures the beauty of Iceland’s landscape as it highlights the venality of the country’s business practices.
