The Queen

Helen Mirren is on Oscar and BAFTA-winning form, playing Queen Elizabeth II at one of the most decisive moments in her reign. The death of Princess Diana in 1997 prompted a crisis in the upper echelons of British society. The tragedy witnessed an outpouring of grief from the British populace. But for the usually restrained and emotionally distant House of Windsor, it threatened to suggest they were out of touch with the modern world. Stephen Frears’ drama reunited him with screenwriter Peter Morgan and Michael Sheen (Tony Blair) who previously worked together on the TV drama ‘The Deal’). But this is Mirren’s show and she shines.
