Eric Portman is impressive as a man gradually losing his grip on reality and drawn towards violent acts. Victor (Portman), the grandson of an infamous hangman, is slowly going mad. And with his insanity comes a desire to kill. He loves Anne (Dulcie Fielding) but knows that sooner or later she will become his next victim. Meanwhile, Inspector Conway (Roland Culver) is closing in on the killer. But will it be too late for Anne?
